POLYSTYRENE LETTERS

We produce the letters and logos in sizes up to 1100mm high, 25mm thick - 300mm thick.

The letters are cut from a choice of over 1000 font styles, if you prefer your own font then just send us the font by email or send us a vector graphic for us to cut from.

Logos are cut in polystyrene and are usually card and vinyl faced with painted sides.

Polystyrene Logos and letters are used for exhibition header panels, events, shop window displays and internal shop displays, Office Reception corporate Header Signage behind the reception desk.

Commercial photographers often use polystyrene letters in photo shoots for promotional literature and advertising brochures.

Polystyrene letters are also used for outside use for short term use or permanent signage purposes which can be achieved with extra layers of an acrylic resin coating.

Polystyrene Lettering and Polystyrene Logos The Various finishes, Specifications.

Polystyrene (IUPAC Poly(1-phenylethane-1,2-diyl)), abbreviated following ISO Standard PS, is an aromatic polymer made from the aromatic monomer styrene, a liquid hydrocarbon that is commercially manufactured from petroleum by the chemical industry. Polystyrene is one of the most widely used kinds of plastic.

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a rigid and tough, closed-cell foam. It is usually white and made of pre-expanded polystyrene beads. Familiar uses include moulded sheets for building insulation and packing material for cushioning fragile items inside boxes. Sheets are commonly packaged as size 4 by 8 feet. A growing use of EPS in construction is insulating concrete forms. The density range is about 16–640 kg/m³. The most common processing method is thermal cutting with hot wires.

The card that goes on the face of the letters comes 800 microns thick and is usually glued onto the polystyrene using a solvent based contact adhesive. The card is usually vinyl faced with a Hexis 5000 series Branded Vinyl in either gloss or matt.

The sides of the letters are painted with an acrylic resin coating which is basically a vinyl matt emulsion, we generally use the Crown brand of paints. We put two layers of paint onto the letters for a better finish to the product.

The Finishes.

Natural white finish polystyrene letters are cut and then cleaned and are used as they come.

Card Faced polystyrene letters are cut and then a coloured vinyl card is applied to the face of the letters to give a smooth finish. Available in gloss or matt. The letters can also be supplied with painted sides in a matt finish using vinyl matt emulsion.

Painted Polystyrene letters are first cut and then given two layers of high quality vinyl matt emulsion paint. We use the Crown Brand of paints because of their quality and service and their ability to match colours to BS and RAL ranges and also to Pantone colour swatches.

Polystyrene letters for outside use can be made to order for short term use or permanent exterior use if required for a shop sign.

If the letters are required for short term use a couple layers of water based resin and two layers of masonary paint will do the job well.

When the letters are required for permanent use outside, we use a higher density styrofoam painted to a matt or gloss finish.

The letters can be faced in MDF, acrylic, aluminium composite, foamPVC or resin faced.

The letters can be glitter coated or sand coated and painted to give a textured masonry finish or to make them look like concrete letters. For 12" high letters we use simplefix stand off fixings and for larger letters we use brass nut and bolt stand off fixings. The letters can also be glued onto the fascia with epoxy resin. Depending on the font used the letters are often reinforced with fibreglass on the back for strength.
